You Deserve It

A poem for those afraid to be happy.

You’re no entitled brat,

not spoiled to your core.

You’re just a human being,

it’s what we all live for.

You deserve to be happy,

even through your tears;

you deserve to feel love,

through all of your years.

You deserve to take up space

even when it feels tight,

you deserve to be respected,

except when you’re not right.

No need to stay still,

you deserve to grow,

you haven’t had your fill,

there’s plenty left to go.

I don’t know when it’s coming,

but you won’t wait a while,

I hope it comes easy,

but you know that’s not its style.

Will it come from your love?

Will it come from your soul?

You’ve never been above

trying to feel whole;

you’re not asking for much,

you don’t need more.

You know you’re not owed the greatness

that you haven’t worked for.

You’re not demanding the world

give you everything it has,

I know what you want

isn’t too much to ask.

It’s okay to feel it;

yes, the feeling’s true.

No one’s gonna steal it,

there’s nothing they can do.

You’re gonna be okay,

you’re gonna be safe,

I promise this is real,

no, it’s not a fake,

I know it’s a lot,

I know you feel scared.

I know how hard you fought

to never be caught bare,

but this will not hurt you;

go ahead, lower your guard.

You don’t have to worry,

yes, I know it’s hard.

Just let her in,

you won’t regret it,

she’ll take your heart

and you’ll never forget it.

It’ll feel great, I promise,

she’ll always make your day.

That stone in your heart

will finally go away.

Just let it go,

you can do it,

don’t hold on

just ‘cause you’ve been through it.

You deserve to be happy,

you deserve to smile,

you deserve to laugh

for more than a while.

Let her in,

Let her in,

Let her in…

You deserve it.
